St. Ann’s Ahiaeke Celebrates Mothering Sunday in Grand Style, Preaches Hope and True Love
Catholics across the world today celebrated Mothering Sunday, with St. Ann’s Catholic Parish, Ahiaeke, marking the occasion in a grand and spiritually uplifting manner.
At the Mass, the Assistant Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Michael Agwu, highlighted the invaluable role of mothers in society, describing them as exceptional and deserving of daily appreciation and celebration.
Delivering a homily titled “Looking Beyond Frustration,” Fr. Michael urged the faithful to remain steadfast in God, who restores hope even in the face of life’s challenges. He recalled how the disciples, after abandoning their livelihoods to follow Jesus, were thrown into despair following His crucifixion, but later regained hope through His resurrection.
He encouraged those experiencing frustration in their marriages, families, or careers not to give up, but to hold firmly to Christ, who remains present in every moment of disappointment. According to him, “Jesus gives a kind of peace that the world cannot offer.”
Fr. Michael further called on the congregation to be true witnesses of Christ by preaching the Gospel not only in words but through their conduct.
Addressing mothers specially, he urged them to uphold strong moral standards in their homes by instilling discipline in their children. He cautioned against over-familiarity, emphasizing the need for balance in parenting. He also advised mothers to show kindness towards their daughters-in-law and remain respectful and submissive to their husbands.
Fr Michael concluded by praying for God’s blessings and protection upon all mothers present.
Speaking during the vote of thanks, the Catholic Women Organisation (CWO) President, Dr. Mrs. Grace Okaro, expressed appreciation to the Parish Priest, Very Rev. Fr. Vitus Eke, and his assistant for their guidance and support. She assured that mothers in the parish would take to heart the teachings received and strive to become better individuals. She also encouraged women to actively participate in CWO activities within the parish.
Dr. Okaro further disclosed that funds realised from the celebration would be used to execute a project aimed at lighting up the church premises.
A major highlight of the event was the unveiling of the theme for this year’s Mothering Sunday, “True Love in Action,” which was met with admiration and joy by the jubilant mothers and congregation.
