At the heart of the Labour Party’s national convention held at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia, in Umuahia, one figure stood out for his calm authority, clarity of thought, and unwavering commitment to democratic principles CHIEF DR. As a key member of the Screening, Accreditation and Electoral Subcommittee, Dr David Onuoha played a central role in ensuring that the convention reflected the core values of transparency, fairness, and internal democracy that the Labour Party continues to project nationally.
Speaking to journalists during the event, Bourdex described the convention as more than a political gathering, but a defining moment in the party’s evolution.
According to him, internal democracy is not a slogan within the Labour Party, but a lived process being strengthened through credible systems of screening, accreditation, and voting.
“Our duty was simple but sacred to ensure that every delegate, every vote, and every outcome reflects credibility and fairness,” he said.
He emphasized that the strength of any political party lies not in rhetoric but in the integrity of its processes. From the beginning of the exercise, Kalu noted, strict adherence to guidelines was maintained to guarantee transparency and accountability at every stage.
While acknowledging that no electoral process is without concerns, he stressed that what distinguishes a credible system is not the absence of complaints, but the presence of structures capable of addressing grievances fairly and transparently.
“In every political process, especially one as significant as this, concerns will arise. But the real test is how the process withstands scrutiny. What matters most is the integrity behind it,” he added.
Bourdex remarks reflect a deep commitment to institutional strengthening within the Labour Party, which he described as steadily transforming from an emerging force into a disciplined and structured political movement.
According to him, the outcomes of the convention go beyond leadership selection they lay the foundation for unity, stability, and national relevance ahead of future elections, including 2027.
“2027 is not a distant conversation. It is already in motion. What we are doing here is strengthening our internal structures and positioning ourselves for effective participation,” he said.
He urged party members and loyalists to remain united, focused, and committed to the founding ideals of justice, fairness, and people-centered governance that define the party’s identity.
The Ohafia Mayor also commended the governance direction in Abia State under Governor Alex Otti, describing it as a model of disciplined leadership and purposeful governance that has set new standards for public service delivery.
What is happening in our state today, he noted, is a reflection of clear vision and accountable leadership, which continues to strengthen public confidence in governance.
He further declared confidence in the political direction of the state, stating emphatically that there is “no vacancy in Government House Umuahia,” a remark he tied to performance-driven leadership and public satisfaction.
