The Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, Uche Aguoru, has declared that the party remains strong, united and popular enough to win across polling units in the state if an election were to be conducted today.
Aguoru made the assertion while briefing journalists at the APC secretariat in Umuahia, where he expressed confidence in the party’s grassroots appeal and internal strength, despite recent political disagreements and post-primary tensions.
According to him, the APC in Abia is far from divided, insisting that the party remains intact and firmly positioned for future electoral contests. He argued that the level of support enjoyed by the party across communities and wards in the state is a clear indication that it would perform strongly if tested at the polls today.
“If election holds today, the APC will win from polling unit to polling unit,” Aguoru said, projecting confidence in the party’s structure, membership strength and growing acceptance among the electorate.
He, however, noted that disagreements are not unusual in politics, especially after keenly contested internal exercises, stressing that differing opinions among members should not be interpreted as a sign of collapse or disunity. Rather, he described such moments as part of the democratic process in a party that allows freedom of expression and participation.
The APC spokesman also used the opportunity to defend the party’s internal democratic culture, saying the APC does not believe in imposing candidates or shutting members out of the process. He maintained that the party provides a level playing ground for aspirants and members to express their views, contest fairly and contribute to decision-making
Aguoru contrasted the APC’s approach with what he described as undemocratic practices in some political circles, where decisions are allegedly taken behind closed doors and candidates handpicked without consultation. In the APC, he said, ideas are allowed to flourish and members are encouraged to take part actively in shaping the future of the party.
He further stated that the openness of the party to differing opinions has continued to strengthen its internal cohesion and deepen members’ confidence in the leadership, even in moments of political contest.
Reaffirming the party’s readiness for future elections, Aguoru called on members to remain focused, united and committed to the ideals of tolerance, participation and collective progress. He said the APC’s strength lies not only in its structure, but also in its ability to accommodate divergent views while staying united in purpose.
His remarks come amid efforts by party leaders to calm tensions and reinforce confidence within the APC following recent political developments in the state.
