The member representing Ikwuano Umuahia Federal constituency in the house of Representative, Obi Aguocha, has reeled out a catalogue of his achievements in office, maintaining that advocacy remains the driving force behind his legislative and constituency interventions.
Speaking during an interaction with newsmen at his country home Nkwoegwu Umuahia, Aguocha said his passion for advocacy has enabled him to give voice to the concerns of his constituents while attracting meaningful development to communities.
He noted that education has remained at the core of his empowerment initiatives, disclosing that over 700 students have so far benefited from his scholarship scheme aimed at supporting indigent families.
According to him, “education remains an important tool for breaking the cycle of poverty and creating opportunities for a better future”.
The lawmaker also highlighted infrastructural interventions, including the renovation and support for primary schools in rural communities such as Umuana Ndume and Amuzukwu Ibeku, as part of efforts to improve learning conditions for pupils.
Aguocha further pointed to his outreach programmes, which include support for widows and vulnerable groups through housing and welfare initiatives. He emphasized that putting smiles on the faces of the less privileged gives him great fulfillment.
“I have also sponsored a bill to transform MOUAU (Michael Okpara University Umudike become a conventional university while the Federal Medical centre Umuahia will Subsequently become a federal teaching hospital serving the institution.
“The current Federal medical centre will now be shifted to Ikwuano Oboro which will create employment and attract development to the area”
Aguocha also said that he has leveraged his closeness with the Governor to attract appointments to members of his Ohuhu community most notably the elevation of Ohuhu born Chief Victor Ikeji as Abia’s representative Commissioner at the federal character Commission.
He also added that he has empowered so many of my constituents to acquire computer skills and plumbing skills
“In fact when I wanted to train 400 people to acquire some of these skills like Plumbing over 7000 persons applied for it”
When quizzed on the matters surrounding Nnamdi Kanu’s incarceration which has almost become his utmost priority in the house, Rep Aguocha stated that if 10% of his fellow colleagues did what he has been doing concerning Nnamdi he wud’ve long been released while adding that the issues concerning the plight of ndi igbo and Nnamdi kanu remains one of his campaign promises before he won the election and he has remained steadfast in advocating for his release and to speak truth to power concerning south east marginalization.
“Giving Igbos equal opportunities in Nigeria is what we’re all clamouring for infact that’s what Nnamdi Kanu has been advocating for which has led to his imprisonment by the Federal government
Igbo shud be recognized as a Nigerian project the marginalization is too much the president has taken every thing to Lagos his home state while neglecting the people of South east who have no sea port and federal presence
The Rep member further noted that God is the giver of power and he gives it to whomever he wishes while confirming that he isn’t afraid of whoever he is facing in the upcoming 2027 election that his achievements will speak for him
He commended Gov Alex Otti for his developmental strides in the state stating that he has a covenant with Abia and he’ll surely complete his 8(Eight)year tenure and fulfil his dream of making Abia the best state in Nigeria
Aguocha pledged to sustain his advocacy-driven approach to governance, noting that effective leadership must be rooted in service, inclusiveness, and responsiveness to the needs of the people.
He called on constituents to continue supporting his efforts, assuring them of more impactful projects and programmes in the months ahead.
