The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State has strongly criticized Uche Ogah for publicly pledging support for the re-election of Governor Alex Otti, describing the move as a clear act of anti-party conduct.
The party leadership stated that Ogah’s endorsement of a governor from another political platform undermines the unity and interests of the APC in the state. It therefore maintained that his suspension from the party remains valid.
warning that members who engage in activities capable of weakening the party’s structure or electoral prospects would face disciplinary action.
Speaking during an emergency meeting of the 17 Local Government Area (LGA) chairmen and members of the State Working Committee held at the party’s headquarters in Umuahia, Abia State, the APC State Deputy Chairman, Hon. Chinedu Ihesiulo, stated that party structures across all local governments and wards are working assiduously to ensure victory for the party in the 2027 general elections.
He announced that the party’s zonal convention will be held on March 27, while the national convention is scheduled for March 28. The State Working Committee also unanimously agreed that Hon. Donatus Nwankpa, the first APC chairman in the state, will represent Abia State as the National Welfare Secretary at the upcoming national convention.”
On the issue surrounding the anti-party remarks by Dr. Uche Ogah, the APC governorship flag bearer in the 2019 general elections, made during a reception held in honour of Ikechukwu Uwanna, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice Abia, at his country home in Isuikwuato where Ogah praised Governor Alex Otti for what he described as his incredible performance in office and vowed to support his re-election as well as that of President Bola Tinubu’s in 2027.
the APC State Legal Adviser, V. C. Nwankwo, Esq. explained that Ogah made the statement as an individual and not as a member of the party, noting that he has been suspended from the party since 2022 as a result of the same anti party offence of backing the opposition.
“We all saw the viral video circulating in the media space where Ogah openly supported Otti’s re-election knowing fully well of APC’s intention to produce a governor and take over Abia government house since Otti has decided to be operating from his personal residence instead of Abia Government house.
“The truth of the matter is that from the day he made that comment Oga has been on suspension from the party since 2022 and that suspension has not been lifted.
Barr. Ukaegbu lamented that Ogah has continued to engage in anti-party activities while parading himself as a member of the APC despite his suspension from the party.
“His action falls short in the constitution of apc as amended and he deserves disciplinary actions”
In further clarification to the anti-party remarks by Ogah, the APC Legal Adviser stated that Ogah’s suspension from the party since 2022 remains in effect and that is the final position of the Abia APC on this matter urging party faithfuls to remain steadfast as they aim for victory in the 2027 general election.
The state Publicity secretary Uche Aguoru, Joy Ajuzie Ogu state welfare officer and a host of other state party stakeholders were present during the meeting.
