The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2027 election in Abia State, Kelechi Anosike, has pledged to prioritise the welfare of the people if elected, promising to clear outstanding promotional arrears owed to civil servants and implement policies that will improve their standard of living.

Speaking with journalists during his homecoming and reception as the Governorship flag bearer at the party secretariat in Umuahia, Anosike thanked PDP delegates and stakeholders for the confidence reposed in him, assuring them that he would not betray the trust they had placed in him.

“I thank our party delegates for making me the PDP governorship flag bearer. I assure you that together we will rebuild Abia and restore the confidence of our people,” he said.

Describing himself as a committed welfarist, Anosike said the welfare of Abians would be the cornerstone of his administration.

“A labourer deserves his wages. I am aware that Abia workers are owed outstanding promotional arrears, and once I assume office, those arrears will be cleared. We will also restructure the civil service to make it more efficient and productive,” he stated.

He further pledged to implement a ₦90,000 minimum wage, stressing that his administration would pursue people-centred policies aimed at improving the quality of life for residents.

According to him, agriculture would receive massive investment to guarantee food security, declaring that no Abian would go to bed hungry under his government.

“We will invest heavily in agriculture to create jobs, boost food production and ensure there is food for everyone,” he said.

On economic development, the PDP candidate said his administration would embrace innovation and technology to create global employment opportunities for young people.

“You can live in Abia and work for companies in other countries, earning in dollars. Governance is about thinking outside the box, and human capital development will be one of our top priorities,” he added.

Anosike also promised to develop modern sports facilities across the state to discover and nurture talented athletes, saying sports would be used as a tool for youth empowerment and economic growth.

As part of measures to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal, he pledged to introduce social welfare programmes if elected, stating that his administration would bear up to 70 per cent of the burden through targeted interventions for vulnerable citizens.

The PDP governorship candidate expressed confidence in the strength of his party ahead of the 2027 election, insisting that the PDP remains the strongest and most structured political party in Abia State.
