The political atmosphere in Abia State is set for another major realignment as prominent political figure, Ochiagha Reagan Ufomba, alongside his supporters, officially joins the Labour Party on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, in what political observers have described as another major boost for the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The grand reception ceremony is scheduled to hold by 10:00 a.m. at Okpuala Ngwa, the Headquarters of Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area of Abia State, with top Labour Party leaders, stakeholders, supporters, political appointees, youth groups, women leaders, and party faithfuls expected to attend the event.

According to a statement signed by the Abia State Labour Party Secretary, Barr. Chuks Akamadu, the reception will be led by the Abia State Labour Party Chairman, Hon. Peter Azubuike, whose leadership has continued to attract influential political stakeholders into the party across different parts of the state.

The party described the event as another significant milestone in the continued growth and consolidation of the Labour Party in Abia State under the transformational leadership of Governor Alex Chioma Otti, OFR.

Political analysts within the state believe the defection of Ochiagha Reagan Ufomba is not an ordinary political movement, but a strategic development capable of reshaping political calculations within Isiala Ngwa North and beyond.

The Labour Party in recent months has continued to witness a steady influx of politicians, grassroots mobilizers, youth leaders, and influential stakeholders from opposition parties who have openly declared support for Governor Alex Otti’s administration and the “New Abia” agenda.

Observers say the growing confidence in the Labour Party is largely tied to the visible infrastructural projects, governance reforms, road constructions, sanitation initiatives, economic policies, and public sector reforms introduced by Governor Otti since assuming office.

The statement issued by the party further noted that the reception ceremony would serve as a gathering point for “all well-meaning Abians, party faithfuls, stakeholders, supporters, and lovers of the New Abia project.”

“This significant event marks another milestone in the continued growth and development of Abia State and our great party as distinguished leaders and their supporters continue to identify with the transformative leadership and developmental strides of His Excellency, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, Governor of Abia State,” the statement read.

The party also emphasized that the official reception of Ochiagha Reagan Ufomba and his supporters further demonstrates the increasing acceptance and dominance of the Labour Party structure across communities in Abia State ahead of the next election cycle.

Hon. Peter Azubuike, who has continued to reposition the Labour Party structure in the state through grassroots engagement, harmonization meetings, stakeholders interactions, and strategic mobilization, is expected to use the occasion to further reinforce party unity and expand the party’s grassroots reach.

Political watchers say the entry of respected political leaders into the Labour Party may further strengthen the party’s chances of consolidating its hold on the state in 2027, especially as the opposition parties continue to battle internal disagreements and leadership struggles.

Residents and supporters from different parts of Isiala Ngwa North and neighboring communities are expected to troop out massively for the event, which many already describe as one of the biggest political gatherings in the area in recent times.

The Labour Party leadership also used the opportunity to invite members of the public to participate in the historic reception and witness what it described as “another bold step in the movement to sustain and protect the New Abia vision.”
