AGAIN, AGUOCHA DONATES ₦1.8M TO TACKLE EROSION MENACE THREATENING UMUEKWULE COMMUNITY
The member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Obi Aguocha, has donated the sum of ₦1.8 million to support urgent efforts to check a devastating erosion menace threatening the major road linking Umuekwule community to Umuoshi from Okpuala in Abia State.
The intervention is part of Aguocha’s efforts to support communities affected by natural disasters and other pressing infrastructural challenges, particularly those that pose a threat to the safety and livelihood of residents.
The erosion gully, located close to Ikpoto Junction, has been expanding rapidly and is dangerously close to caving into the major road. Community members said the collapse of the road could effectively cut Umuekwule into two and severely disrupt movement in and out of the community.
According to a community appeal addressed to sons and daughters of Umuekwule at home and abroad, the proposed emergency intervention involves checking the erosion and constructing a proper drainage system to safely channel stormwater and prevent further damage.
The drainage construction is expected to run from Umunlewe Junction down to the point where the road is currently threatened by the expanding erosion.
The community estimated the cost of the emergency project at ₦1.8 million, and Hon. Obi Aguocha has already made a donation towards it.
Aguocha’s donation, therefore, provides significant financial support towards the immediate response to the erosion threat and the protection of the community’s major access route.

The people of Umuekwule expressed profound appreciation to the lawmaker for the timely intervention, describing the gesture as a significant relief in the face of the urgent erosion challenge threatening the community.
They pledged never to take his support for granted, assuring him of their continued goodwill and vowing to massively support his bid to secure a second term in the House of Representatives to continue representing the people of Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency.
The community further urged its sons and daughters to contribute according to their means, stressing that preserving the road was a collective responsibility and essential to safeguarding the movement, economic activities and general wellbeing of residents.

OBI AGUOCHA DONATES ₦1.7M TO RESTORE ELECTRICITY IN OFEKE COMMUNITY
The member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Obi Aguocha, has donated ₦1.7 million to the people of Ofeke Azueke Ibeku to support efforts to restore electricity to the community.
The donation is specifically aimed at helping the community repair and restore its electricity infrastructure after heavy rainfall reportedly caused severe damage, leaving residents without electricity.
The intervention has attracted commendation from members of the community, who described the gesture as timely, particularly given the impact of the power outage on households, businesses and other activities in the area.
According to the members of the community, the latest donation further demonstrates Aguocha’s attention to issues affecting communities at the grassroots.
“We sincerely appreciate this great gesture. Your support means a lot to the people of Ofeke Azueke Ibeku, and we will never take it for granted,” the community said.
The people of the community also recalled Aguocha’s passionate appeal to the Abia State Governor for the reconstruction of the long-abandoned Ofeke–Okporoenyi Road, noting that the lawmaker went as far as kneeling before the Governor to plead for urgent intervention on the road, which the residents said had suffered years of neglect under previous administrations.
They prayed for God’s continued blessings, strength and protection for Aguocha, while expressing hope that the financial intervention would facilitate the prompt restoration of electricity in the community. They also assured him of their massive support ahead of the 2027 general election, in appreciation of his kind gesture towards the community

Tension Mounts in Abia as Disputed Land Siting for Cassava Plant Sparks Legal and Community Concerns
Fresh tension is building in Obinolu Chukwu Community in Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State following renewed moves to site a proposed cassava processing plant on a parcel of land already under litigation at the High Court of Abia State.
The development has stirred anxiety among indigenes and stakeholders, who fear that proceeding with any project on the disputed land, despite an existing court order and ongoing reconciliation effort, could escalate into a wider community crisis.
The situation escalated after the recent visit of the Executive Mayor of Umunneochi LGA, Chief Sunny Afurobi, and his delegation to the palace of HRM Eze Amb. L.O Uche, Nnakaeze 1 of Obinolu. Discussions during the visit centered on plans to establish a cassava processing facility in the community, with assurances reportedly given that funding for the project was already secured and that the community should immediately provide a suitable site for commencement.
Following consultations, the traditional rulers, HRM Eze Amb. L.O Uche and HRH Eze Kenneth Ugah, Nnuga 1 of Isi-Obinolu, identified a location for the proposed facility.
However, emerging details indicate that the identified land is already the subject of a pending case at the High Court of Abia State sitting in Nkwoagu Isuochi Judicial Division, under Suit No. HUM/11/2025. The matter involves DON DESTINE GLOBAL LINKS LTD and several defendants, including traditional and community leaders as well as other stakeholders.
Court documents show that a ruling delivered on April 30, 2025, by Hon. Justice C. Chido Nwakanma restrained all parties involved from engaging in any form of surveying, parceling, or allocation of the disputed land pending the final determination of the case.
The order has raised fresh concerns over any attempt to commence development activities on the land, with legal observers warning that such actions could undermine judicial authority and violate the principle of maintaining the status quo while a matter is sub judice.
Meanwhile, stakeholders within the community recall that the lingering dispute had earlier prompted the President-General of Obinolu Town Development Union, Barr. Chris Otum, to petition the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, over the escalating tensions surrounding the land.
Following the petition, it was gathered that the Governor directed the matter to the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, leading to the formation of a Peace and Reconciliation Committee tasked with resolving the dispute and restoring harmony in the area.
Despite these intervention efforts, some stakeholders allege that the reconciliation process has suffered setbacks due to the absence of key traditional leaders from several committee sittings, a development they claim has slowed progress toward a lasting resolution.
Concerns have further intensified over the recent involvement of the Mayor in discussions surrounding the disputed land, with critics warning that any attempt to proceed with the project at the current site could jeopardize both the judicial process and the ongoing peace initiative.

Indigenes of the community have warned that escalating the situation could deepen divisions, heighten mistrust, and potentially trigger unrest in Obinolu Chukwu.
They are therefore calling for immediate suspension of all activities relating to the proposed cassava processing plant on the disputed land, insisting that all parties must await the final court decision and the conclusion of the government-backed reconciliation process.
The stakeholders also appealed to the Abia State Government, security agencies, and relevant authorities to urgently intervene to prevent a breakdown of law and order and to ensure that both peace and judicial processes are fully respected in the community.
