The Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2027 Abia State governorship election, Barr. Kelechi Anosike, PhD, has declared that the party has put its internal challenges behind it and is now united, formidable and fully prepared to reclaim power in the state.
Anosike made the declaration during a no-holds-barred media parley held at the PDP State Secretariat in Umuahia, where he unveiled his vision for Abia, anchored on workers’ welfare, human capital development, industrialisation, agriculture and transparent governance.
“The past no longer matters. Abia PDP now has a new mindset. We are focused, united and prepared to rescue the state,” Anosike said, expressing confidence that the party would emerge victorious in the 2027 governorship election.
The PDP Gubernatorial flagbearer criticised the administration of Governor Alex Otti, arguing that the state’s performance does not reflect the huge financial allocations currently accruing to Abia from the Federation Account.
“Abia is not poor but poorly managed,” he declared, maintaining that government performance should be measured not only by physical infrastructure but also by improvements in the welfare and living standards of the people.
According to him, previous administrations operated under severe financial constraints, receiving about ₦3.5 billion monthly from the Federation Account, unlike the significantly higher allocations available to states today following the removal of fuel subsidy.
He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for policies that have increased states’ revenues, while insisting that the real difference between one administration and another lies in prudent management and effective utilisation of available resources.
Describing himself as a committed welfarist, Anosike said every policy under his administration would place the welfare of the people at its centre.
“A good man gets power and power becomes good, but when a bad man gets power, power becomes bad,” he said.
He promised to clear outstanding promotional arrears owed to civil servants, review cases of workers allegedly retired before attaining the statutory retirement age and reinstate about 10,000 civil servants whom he claimed were unjustly disengaged by the present administration after due review.
The governorship candidate also pledged to introduce car loan schemes for civil servants, provide affordable retirement homes, establish a Civil Service College for continuous training and retraining of workers and implement a minimum wage of ₦90,000.
On economic development, Anosike promised to revive moribund industries, establish cottage industries, support Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) through grants and intervention programmes, and prioritise agriculture in line with the development philosophy of the late Dr. M.I. Okpara.
He also outlined plans to establish the Abia State Informal Sector Regulatory and Development Agency (ABSIRDA) to regulate, train and empower artisans, including mechanics, electricians, plumbers and technicians, while creating pathways for them to access international opportunities.
Speaking on security, Anosike assured residents that security votes would be transparently utilised to strengthen the protection of lives and property across the state.
Reiterating his confidence in the PDP, Anosike maintained that the party has emerged stronger, more united and better positioned to reclaim Government House in 2027.
“Our party is united, formidable and ready to take over the government in 2027,” he declared.
Present at the media parley were the Abia State PDP Chairman, Elder Abraham Amah; the State Vice Chairman, Enyinnaya Appolos; members of the State Working Committee and other party leaders and faithful.
