6th edition of Annual Ndume Unity cup tournament kicks off in Grand style

The instrumental role sports play in unifying and enhancing peace among the people irrespective of tribe,religion or language can never be over emphasized.

As a result of this backdrop,Mr kingsley Amaechi Offor an illustrious son of Ndume took it upon himself to make sure that for the past six years, a football tournament comprising of all the villages that makes us Ndume community must take place inorder to foster unity and peace among the people and equally give outstanding youths a platform to showcase their footballing talent.

This year’s unique tournament also features the female category sponsored by Chief Mrs Chika Ethel Chukwudi another iconic daughter of Ndume Community to also help in developing and nurturing young girls who love and wants to make a career out of football.

Chief Otuka Meregini head of Kingsoo disciples who represented Mr Kingsley Offor the sponsor of the tournament during his address Thanked members of the kingsoo disciples for their tireless efforts in organising and making sure this year’s tournament came to fruition.

He also mentioned that this year’s edition of the tournament offers exciting package for the participating players who wants to ply their trade in Europe as scouts will be coming to watch and thereafter select outstanding players for mentoring and guidance.

Chief Meregini furthermore in his address pleaded with both the players and the fans to always be of good conduct during and after matches to avoid any act that will tarnish the image of Ndume Otuka community.

The President General Ibeku youths association Hon Martins Nwosu while speaking equally commended Mr Kingsley Offor for his sterling effort in uniting and promoting peace in Ndume community for the past six years using sports as an instrument.

The President of Ndume Otuka Chief Ulonnam Onyiro,the head of the kingso disciplines and the LOC chairman Chukwuemeka Ugele lauded this great initiative which will propel Ndume to greater heights both in Abia state and beyond and also promised to support this noble idea.

The competing villages in the tournament are Umuhute,Ofeke, umuohu Azueke,Ogbago,Umuaroko,Umuohu Okpula,Lodu,Ohokobe,Umezeala,Umuafai,Umuana and Ihie

The opening ceremony which took place at Ndume Otuka community Secondary school field where the whole matches will be played had illustrious sons and daughters of
Ndume community in attendance.

The President General Ndume Otuka Chief Ulonnam Onyiro, Mr Innocent Oriaku, Mr Chukwuemeka Ugele chairman Local organizing committee (LOC) of the tournament,traditional rulers and a host of other members of the community also graced the event.

The opening match between Ofeke Village the winners of the last two editions of the tournament and Umuafai ended in a draw with numerous spectators which includes indigenes and outsiders who have made Ndume their home applauding them for their wonderful performance.

the remaining matches of the competition will be played between November till ending of December 2024.
